Faculty and students of Law School of Southeast University participated in the signing ceremony and international seminar of the Beijing Convention on judicial sale of ships

On September 6, the signing ceremony of the Beijing Convention on the judicial sale of ships was held in 2023, with delegations from 34 countries and regions attending the signing ceremony, fifteen countries and regions, including China, Switzerland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Liberia and Honduras, became the first signatories to the convention. The convention will henceforth be open for signature at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. On the same day, the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law -UNCITRAL-RRB-RAL) jointly held an international seminar Beijing“Conventionnvention on judicial sale of ships”Beijing NationalnConventionnCentren centre. Representatives of international organizations such as United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the International Maritime Committee (CMI) , as well as the relevant domestic authorities, university research institutions, shipping, finance, lawyers and other industry representatives attended the international seminar.

The Beijing Convention on judicial sale of ships was drafted by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law over a period of four years and was considered and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2022. The convention is the first international maritime convention named after a city in mainland China. It aims to fill the international legal gap in the field of judicial sale of ships with a view to improving the international legal framework for shipping, is our country actively participates in the International Maritime, the commercial affairs, the trade domain rule formulation successful demonstration.

Yi Bo, associate professor and Postgraduate Student Tong Qi was invited to attend the Convention signing ceremony and International Seminar, to conduct in-depth exchanges with experts from different international organizations and industries on the application of the Beijing Convention on judicial sale of ships and related international trade law issues. On the margins of the meeting, Associate Professor Yibo addressed the keynote speaker, the Supreme People's Court of the People's Republic of China member of the Expert Committee of the Committee of International Business Experts and former chairperson of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization, MS Zhang Yuejiao, introduced the current situation and achievements of our institute in the development of foreign-related legal talents, ms. Zhang Yuejiao fully affirmed this and expressed her willingness to conduct more exchanges and cooperation with our hospital in the field of foreign-related legal personnel training in the future.
